Cory Sucks is an index of Cory Doctorow’s posts to Boing Boing ranked according to how much they suck.

Who is Cory Doctorow?

Cory is a self-proclaimed activist, writer, blogger, public speaker, and “technology person”. Over the past several years he has made thousands of posts to Boing Boing, one of the web’s most popular weblogs. All of those posts have sucked.

Who are you?

My name is Joey Nelson. I’m 23 and live in Los Angeles.

So do you hate Cory or something?

Not really. I’ve read Boing Boing for a long time and only recently realized that I wasn’t really interested in it at all. And Cory’s posts are the worst. It seems like everything he writes is either about his DRM crusade, his book signings or Disney. I figured I could write a simple algorithm to quantify how much each post sucked, so I did it.

What do you get out of this?

This whole thing is pretty much just a way for me to learn some programming/database stuff, and Cory’s posts represent an enormous amount of data to fool around with.

What are the numbers next to each post?

That’s each post CSI, or Cory Sucks Index. At least that’s what I’m calling it for now. The higher the number, the more that post sucks. These numbers will change constantly as the algorithm evolves.

Is this legal?

Even if Boing Boing didn’t publish it’s content with a Creative Commons license, I think this would safely constitute fair use. Luckily, Cory is a huge advocate for this kind of stuff!
